We at H.E.R.O. do a bunch of pro human rights activities throughout the year.

1. Coming Out Day: Our first major activity was the Rainbow Ribbon Reachout as a part of Coming Out Day (10.15.03). Even though many people think that the wearing the color of the rainbow signifies gay pride, this is not the case. The point of passing out rainbow ribbons to first hours this year was to show respect for gay people, people of different races and religions, basically ... Respect everyone, everything, everyday, the THS motto. However, many people didn't interpret it as such. So, instead of fighting their opinion and wasting time on it, we'll probably pass out black and silver ribbons (THS colors) the next time we do a reachout.

2. Women's Rights Showcase: This took place in the beginning of November. This was a showcase that displayed information about women who are/were successful in the fields of science and mathematics. This was a success, and we hope to do it again in the future!

3. Amnesty International: We will be working as a part of this international organization that is dedicated to promoting human rights worldwide. For more information about amnesty, please visit www.amnestyusa.org.

4. World AIDS Day: It's generally acknowledged that AIDS is a major world pandemic. However, many people aren't aware of it. Actually, one in three people that live with AIDS in the United States don't even know it! Since December 1 is World AIDS Day, we will be putting up announcements and posters closer to the event!

5. Womens' Rights Month: March is Womens' Rights Month, and we put up power points, posters, and make announcements to educate the school about the progress of women.

6. Day of Silence: A national event that consists of students staying silent for an entire school day. The purpose of this event is to mirror the silence that LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi, transgender) people have to endure because of prejudices and injustices.

7. Anti-Depression Campaign: "You are not alone." Depression is a common problem that many people deal with; however, people tend to think that they are the only ones that are suffering. This campaign is meant to provide resources for people who feel that they need assistance in dealing with their depression. It is also meant to spread awareness and dispel myths in regards to this condition.

8. Garage Sale: As a fundraiser for our club, we are planning a garage sale. More details will be posted shortly!
