A Heart Divided - By Cherie Bennett and Jeff Gottesfield
I would highly recommend this book. The authors have tackled issues such as teen love, segregation, racism, pride in culture, transitions, coming of age, and understanding two viewpoints. The first half of the book is predictable and just an OK read, as the protagonist moves from the big city to the small southern town and takes on the key societal issues (racism and the confederate flag). While they do handle these transitions well, including a romance with a town boy, there are some rather cliché moments and plot twists. However, the second half of the book more than redeems itself, as there is a very surprising plot twist and then a screen play where different character’s views are discovered. The screenplay itself carries immense insight into the Southern culture and racism – it is incredibly indepth and has many “quotable” lines J. I would highly recommend this book for anyone!
