Buddha Boy
Kathe Koja
This book was as interesting as the reviews promised. There remained the classic conflict of going with or against the crowd, but in this case it retained an element of maturity uncommon to most high-school reads. The religion factor is key, as the reader endeavors to perceive "Buddha Boy's" true beliefs and the current under his behavior, and the ending leaves you desiring a sequel or some sort of closure to what the future holds for him, but the personal journey of Justin, the protagonist, brings depth to the narrative. While sometimes the extremity of the way Jinsen is treated by bullies can be unbelievable, the message behind it is still understood, and it is not nearly as unbelievable as a lot of other teen reads out there. Jinsen's thought-provoking comments also help a younger audience question philosophical concepts that might otherwise go over-looked. I really hope I can meet the author now -it was an excellent book :-).
