Comedy Girl - Ellen Schreiber
Comedy Girl is obviously, a funny book. but that’s just putting it simply. this book is about a seventeen-year-old girl, Trixie Shapiro, who loves making people laugh. The very sound of laughter is a blessing for her. Trixie’s biggest dream is to become a standup comedienne. Only one problem: she’s the shyest girl in school. So she just uses her jokes to make her best friend Jazzy laugh. when Jazzy signs her up to perform for Senior Talent Night, Trixie chokes. Literally. But luckily for her, opportunity decides to knock more than once. Trixie performs at Chicago’s best comedy club, Chaplin’s, and almost immediately her career takes off. Even better, the guy she’s had a crush on for nearly four years Gavin Baldwin, decides to ask her out. Can’t get much better, right? Unfortunately for Trixie, she has to decide between the two, and it’s not Gavin. It seems like Trixie’s given up on love, ‘till the end where Gavin and Trixie get back together, each realizing how much they needed the other.
Ellen Schreiber has written a wonderful book, dealing with the emotions of a shy teenage girl ready to grow up. Her portrayal of Trixie Shapiro, up and coming comedienne, is honest and realistic. People can relate to Trixie’s problems of overcoming stage fright, and finding out who you really are. The 273 pages of this book are filled with the ups and downs of show business, love and following your dreams no matter what.
