Vivian Vande Velde - Curses, Inc.
This book is a collection of fantasy stories, often involving witchcraft and always involving magic. The stories themselves are easy enough to read, an average of twenty or thirty pages apiece. The tales are fanciful and often original, such as Witch-Hunt, a story that puts an entirely new spin on the term. Another that stands out from the rest is Past Sunset, a heartbreakingly haunting tale of a lady ghost and a good-hearted young man. The language the book is written in is simple, but descriptive. It is a light, friendly book to read, something akin to coffee for the brain. It has just over 200 pages of what seems to be 14 point font, printed on five by nine and a half inch paper with one inch margins on all sides. For those seeking exhilarating adventure, however, will find this book leaves much to be desired.
These stories, every last one, reminds us to be careful what we wish for. After all, as the saying goes, it just may come true.
