Deerskin, written by renowned fantasy author Robin McKinley, was an excellent read if your genre of preference happens to be a fantasy read. It's written in a believable fantasy world where the character develops, at first, at a very slow rate. But, when forced to escape her father's heavy hand, she is thrown into the process of maturaty that would normally take more time than given. In the forest where she flees, she is saved by a magic that is not entirely understood or known to her, but leads her to not only a recovery from her childhood, but, eventually, to the justice that is deserved. It's a story about journey and self-discovery, with a surprising twist of romance towards the end. I would recommend it to any reader who wants to read a book that personalizes the character in such a way that you feel a sympathy for them.
