Lirael

Lirael: Daughter of the Clayr - Garth Nix

When faced with being the eldest girl among the Clayr without the Sight, Lirael is left confused and hurt, with not even a mother, father, or sibling to turn to. Soon, however, things change, as she gets a job in the library and makes a new friend, the Disreputable Dog. She and the Dog go exploring often, and one day she stumbles upon some things that change her entire course of life. She leaves the Clayr and sails off on a mission to save the Old Kingdom from a growing Necromancer with other powers that no one is quite sure of. Lirael: Daughter of the Clayr, written by Garth Nix and the second in a The Abhorsen Trilogy, is even better than the first, with exciting twists to the plot that keep you on your toes until the end. However, the ending is very abrupt, so I would suggest that you have a copy of the third book handy so you can continue to see what happens.
