That Summer

That Summer, by Sarah Dessen, was not, in my opinion, the best of her books. Her writing itself was as good as ever, but left you feeling confused. In some cases this is the intended, but this just felt unfinished. The character, Haven, is very real and follows Dessen's usual pattern of a teen dealing with life, as her sister is marrying and her parents are divorcing. You are swept into the crazy life and Haven's realization that people aren't always as wonderful as they once seemed, as she flips between memories of a past summer and the reality of this summer - and their drastic differences. At the end, though, you feel as though something was left untold. It's a great read, but be prepared for an unsatisfactory ending.
