This Lullaby - Sarah Dessen
This Lullaby, written by Sarah Dessen, is one of the best books I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It's written from Remy Starr's point of view, and shows her contorted view of love after her father leaves her and her mother and brother, as well as her mother's numerous divorces. She never quite healed from the bruise her father left when leaving, and the song he left for her as his last greatest hit. "Never without a boyfriend, Remy is a compulsive dater, but before a guy can go all "Ken" on her (as in "ultra boyfriend behavior") she cuts him off, without ever getting close or getting hurt."(Amazon.com). When she meets Dexter, she is thrown for a loop as in one summer he hangs on and confronts her "cold side." She breaks all her own dating rules and slowly learns to let her bitterness go. It's a great story about healing and loving yourself - and giving people and love a chance. Sarah Dessen writes a realistic portrait of life today, yet keeps you completely absorbed with her beautiful style of writing.
