Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
This book was a page-turner and oddly enthralling. There is no particular characteristic about the novel that you can put your finger on that makes it so absorbing, but for some reason you find yourself unable to put it down until the end. It's really not my type of book; a slightly cheesy romance with hyperbole galore and exaggerated cliches, way too perfect boys and syrupy girlie feelings - yet I couldn’t put it down, and, in fact, I found myself oddly depressed when it ended and lay awake hoping I could get my hands on the second as soon as possible. The protagonist is three-dimensional with her family issues, and most teenage girls can relate relatively well to her, and the author's fresh take on vampires made it less grotesque than it could have been (something I appreciate since vampires tend to be the one fantasy subject I can't seem to grasp with a particular liking). What you know deep down is horrifying, disgusting, and strange, is written in some way to make it seem normal, natural, and wonderful. In a weird way, I almost felt as thought the author was spinning the same spell as Edward. I would recommend the book in general - not for any other reason than that I simply couldn't put it down.
