Supplies:
The following items must be with you at the beginning of class everyday:
|
A spiral notebook with pockets (or a 3-ring binder and a folder)
|
A pencil and an eraser (pen is unacceptable)
|
A calculator – preferably a TI-83 Plus (TI-85 or higher cannot be used during a test) |
Grading Policy:
Quarter grades are based on a percentage of possible points. Points will be accumulated from homework assignments (approximately one test grade), notebook quizzes, quizzes and tests. The semester grade will be determined by percentage using the two quarter grades (40% each) and the semester final exam (20%). Percentages are rounded to the nearest whole percent.
93-100 A 83-86 B 73-76 C 63-66 D
90-92 A- 80-82 B- 70-72 C- 60-62 D-
87-89 B+ 77-79 C+ 67-69 D+ 0-59 E
Homework Policy:
There will be homework nearly every day (even on FridayJ). It is very important that you keep up. A score will be recorded at the beginning of the hour for your daily homework assignments. You will earn three points if every problem is attempted. You must write down the original problem (including a picture) and show all work in order to receive full credit! You will earn one point if at least half the assignment is completed properly. You may turn in late assignments for 2 points before the test. Late assignments must be turned in before 7:30 am on the day of the test!! Remember that 2 out of 3 points is a D+. It is recommended that you keep all your work organized in a folder and/or notebook.
Notebook Quizzes
A notebook quiz is given each chapter the day before the test. You should have dated warm-ups, dated notes and numbered assignments for every day of the chapter. Staying organized will help you earn all 20 points for the notebook quiz.
Tests and Quizzes
TI-85 and higher cannot be used on any test or quiz. The memory must be cleared on all graphing calculators prior to a test or quiz. You will not be permitted to use a graphing calculator of any kind on some quizzes and tests (so it would be wise to have a simple scientific calculator). Tests will not be permitted to leave the room. You can make arrangements to go over the test with me. Parents can call and make arrangements to see the test if they are interested. Note to seniors: you will be exempt from the second semester exam if you have an overall semester average of B- or better and have 90% or more of your 2nd semester homework points.
Make-up Work:
All notes, warm-ups, homework, quizzes and tests must be made up after an absence. It is the responsibility of the student to ask someone in class for this information (don't forget to refer to your assignment sheet). Remember that assignments are available on my web site at www.troycolts.org/staff/dloucks. If you are absent on the day of a quiz or test, you must make arrangements to take a makeup. A student who misses one or both review days must still take the test as scheduled. Students who have pre-arranged absences will not be given extra time to do make-up work. I highly recommend that you take vacations only during planned school breaks since it can be very difficult to stay caught up with PreCalc if you miss class. If you do choose to miss school for an extended time, please realize it is your responsibility to get the help you need! Tests and quizzes given the day before a school vacation must be taken before a student leaves. A student who misses class for a school-related activity must complete the assignment for the next day. If a test or quiz is scheduled for that day, it must be taken the day before or the morning of the trip. He/she will not be given extra days.
General Expectations:
1. Respect others.
2. Come to class prepared. If you need to borrow something, do it before class.
3. Remain in your seat during lectures and class discussions.
4. Do not interrupt lectures or discussions for personal requests.
5. Use common sense.
6. There will be no foul language or inconsiderate comments allowed!
7. Anything written in pen will receive NO credit.
8. Cheating will result in a zero grade. Cheating on homework will result in a zero for the assignment as well as a zero on the notebook quiz for everyone involved.
9. Use edline. This is the easiest way for me to communicate with all students.
