Suggested supplies:
- A spiral notebook with a pocket for homework, notes, warm-up assignments, and worksheets.
- A TI 83 plus or TI 84 graphing calculator. This type of calculator is used throughout the college prep math courses. A TI-30XII scientific calculator can also be used but there are some topics that
require the use of a graphing calculator. You will not be able to use calculators at all on some quizzes and tests.
- A pencil and eraser. You may use a pen for notes but I strongly recommend that you use a pencil on all quizzes and tests
How do I grade?
- Grades are assigned based on points earned from homework, quizzes, notebook quizzes, tests, and projects. Homework is approximately equal to one test grade.
- 100 – 89.5% A to A-, 89.4 – 79.5% B+ to B-, 79.4 – 69.5% C+ to C-,
69.4 – 59.5% D+ to D-, 59.4 and below E.
- Semester grades are based on the percentages earned in the two quarters
(40% per quarter) and the percentage earned on the final exam (20%)
- There is no extra credit projects/papers, although some bonus points may be offered.
- There are no retakes on quizzes or tests.
- Students caught cheating (taking or offering) will receive a 0 % on that item.
How do I grade homework?
- Homework that is collected and graded will be worth 4 points.
- Homework is worth 3 points per assignment and you will have homework nearly every day.
- To earn full credit every problem assigned must be attempted, work shown, and the original problem shown.
- If more than half but not all of the problems are attempted you will receive 1 point.
- If you do lees than half the problems, do not write the original problem, of fail to show work you will receive 0 points.
- You can turn in any assignment that earned a 0 or 1 and receive 2 points. You have until the morning of the test (7:30 am) to turn in any incomplete or late assignment from that chapter.
What is a notebook quiz?
- A notebook quiz is given at the end of every chapter the day before the test. It covers warm-ups, in-class problems, notes, and homework.
- I suggest that you keep an organized notebook. Date all warm-ups, notes, in-class assignments, and number your homework assignments.
- You may only use your own notebook for the quiz.
- If you forget your notebook on the day of the notebook quiz you can make it up the following morning before school (7:10 am). Repeat offenders will be denied this privilege.
How do I get help?
- You should always ask questions during class. It is important that you ask about homework problems that you got wrong. If there is time you can ask questions at the end of the class.
- Extra help is available before or after school. I am usually at school by 6:30 am and do not leave until 3:15 pm. Do not wait until the morning before a quiz or a test to ask your questions.
What if I miss class?
- If your absence is excused you have a week from the day you return to make up all missed assignments. If you miss a quiz or a test they need to be taken as soon as possible but no later than week after you
return. You can make up quizzes or tests before or after school or during class.
- You are responsible for getting all missed notes, assignments, and warn-ups. The assignments are posted in the classroom and on the website. I suggest that you get all missed material from a classmate as
soon as possible.
- If you are going to miss class because of a vacation you must arrange to take any quiz or test early.
