Colts Double-Up Dondero (April 21) The Colts put together their best pitching and defense of the season, and combined it with some timely hitting from the entire line-up, to sweep Dondero by scores of 3 – 1 and 10 – 0. The team fired on all cylinders. Game 1 was dominated by the pitchers. Winston Goan threw his best stuff of the season at the Oaks holding them to just 2 hits and 1 unearned run in 7 innings of work. The good guys manufactured a couple of runs on a hit by Norm Eichner after David Pardun and Tom Hamilton got on base and distracted the Dondero ace with their base running. Goan finished the game strong and got the win. Game 2 was less dramatic, but the Troy pitching dominance continued with Andrew Zimcosky tossing a one hit shut out in a big 10 – 0 Colt win (5 innings). It was a pitching gem and only took “Zim” 56 pitches (and he retired the last 11 batters in order) to go the 5 innings. The offense included at least one hit from the entire starting line-up with John Raymond knocking in 4 runs and multi-hit games from several others (Pardun, Zimcosky, Robinson). Pardun had a field day on the bases stealing 4 bases for the day. The big inning was the 3rd with the Colts putting 8 straight men on base and driving in 8 runs after there were two out! The team record improves to 7 – 5 as we head back into lague play this week against some tough opponents. |
